II. The announcement of Messiah's birth and the grandeur of the God-man (1:31-37)
A. (v. 31-33) The proclamation of the Messiah's complete humanity and divinity
A. Jesus is proclaimed the Son of God (1:32)
B. Jesus fulfills the Davidic convenant as the Messiah King whose reign and kingdom will have no end (1:32-33)
B. (v. 34-37) Proclamation of the Messiah's holy divinity
3 Things in Luke 1:35-36:
- Not a natural conception
- This will be accomplished by the Holy Spirit
- The virgin conception is to protect the Son of God's holiness and divinity
Importance of the Virgin Birth:
- It is the sign which accompanies and indicates the mystery of the incarnation of the Son.
- Jesus' birth to His resurrection is two backends that signify Jesus' life is different than all other humanity
- The supernatural character of Jesus and the gospel
- The virgin birth is a sign of God's judgment on human nature
- The virgin birth is a sign that Jesus Christ is a new beginning
